Manager of English club responds to reported interest in Aston Villa 25-year-old
By Harvey Byrne
Nottingham Forest boss Mark Warburton has remained coy when asked about his interest in Aston Villa midfielder Gary Gardner after media speculation.
The Daily Mail reported on Saturday that the 25-year-old was attracting interest from a number of English clubs, specifically naming Nottingham Forest.
The Villa youth graduate has previously spent two loan moves at the City Ground in both 2015 and 2016.
However, when asked about Gardner, Warburton refused to give any specifics and simply told that he will not discuss business until it’s complete.
“Again he is one of many players we have been linked with, we will have a 38 man squad again if we sign all of the players we have been linked with,” said Warburton, as quoted by the Nottingham Post.
“We will never discuss our business until it is done.”
Gardner has played 45 times for the Aston Villa senior team in total, scoring once after making his debut in December 2011 against Chelsea.
In comparison he has played 40 times for Forest, scoring on six occasions across two loan spells.
Last season he enjoyed a run in the Aston Villa eleven, making 27 appearances in all competitions and even extended his contract to 2020 in January.
However, with the addition of Glenn Whelan alongside Henri Lansbury, Conor Hourihane and Mile Jedinak already competing for a first team place in the centre of the park he may struggle for game time in the next campaign.
