Manager of English club responds to reported interest in Rangers 23-year-old

By Harvey Byrne

Rotherham manager Paul Warne has denied that his club are trying to bring in Rangers midfielder Josh Windass this summer, despite reports.

The senior man was quoted by BBC Radio Sheffield Sports Journalist Rob Staton via his personal Twitter account on Friday evening as to saying the English League One side were not looking at a move for the 23-year-old.

The comment follows a report from the Daily Record via their live transfer blog (July 19, 08.43am) that the Millers had made an approach for last summer’s signing.

Windass completed a move to Ibrox last summer from English League Two side Accrington after agreeing a pre-contract deal.

He agreed to the terms of a three-year contract at the time and played in 27 matches for Rangers in all competitions last season, returning one goal and five assists.

Football Insider verdict:

A number of Rangers players failed to impress in the last campaign and Windass is certainly one of them, meaning that supporters would not be too disappointed to see him depart from their new look squad. However, given his impressive performances previously for Accrington he could still come good in Glasgow. It is no secret that Rangers were a tough side to play for last season and a number of players faltered. That mentality would have spread around the squad to players like Windass. Now, a year would certainly be too soon to let a player who was considered to have potential leave and this development could work in the Gers’ favour in the long-term.
