Manchester City now just hours away from PSR fate as Premier League announcement due
Manchester City are among Premier League clubs holding their breath ahead of Wednesday’s Profit and Sustainability Rules declaration.
With a verdict still awaited, Man City remain under investigation for 115 financial breaches, which were alleged by the Premier League.
A hearing into the charges concluded over a year ago now, with the independent commission that heard them still yet to hand down a verdict.
Man City signed Antoine Semenyo in a £64million deal from Bournemouth last week, in a clear sign that they are not worried about the chances of any further PSR-related action.
Marc Guehi is also targeted by Man City this month amid an injury crisis in defence, in what will be a clear flexing of their financial muscles if they can pull it off.

Premier League set to make PSR announcement
Financial rules in the Premier League have tightened in recent years, with the introduction of PSR creating an issue for several clubs.
Clubs hoping to abide by the financial rules will need to make sure that they have not lost more than £105m over a rolling three-year period.
| Premier League | Transfer spending – Summer 2025-26 |
| Arsenal | £267million |
| Manchester United | £232.4million |
| Manchester City | £185.8million |
| Newcastle United | £256.3million |
| Aston Villa | £28million |
Naturally, this creates a problem for the likes of Aston Villa and Newcastle United, who, despite having the means to spend significant money on transfers, cannot match the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United in a commercial or matchday sense.
Both clubs have been forced to sell in recent years, and the Villans were forced to remain fairly tight-lipped in the summer transfer window.
All clubs needed to submit audited versions of their accounts to the Premier League by 31 December, with any breach of the regulations to be declared by this Wednesday.
The I Paper reported on Tuesday that every club is expected to be fully compliant with the rules, but that Villa, Man United and Chelsea are ones to keep an eye on for future breaches.
Premier League continues to await Man City verdict
The announcement of the charges that have been brought against Man City by the Premier League date all the way back to February 2023.
In a world that has seen the likes of Leicester City and Everton charged swiftly since, fans have been left hugely frustrated by the delay.
Once handed down, the punishment, or lack thereof, is expected to serve as a yardstick for how financial breaches are dealt with going forward.
And of course, there could well be real ramifications for this season’s title race. Man City currently represent the biggest challenger to leaders Arsenal, but a point deduction could prove pivotal.
