Jack Grealish: Stefan Borson suggests late Man City transfer twist

Enzo Maresca could choose to keep Jack Grealish at Manchester City for the 2026-27 campaign in a last-gasp decision.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the winger could still be the manager's thinking.

Since returning from injury and his season-long loan at Everton, Grealish has featured against both Arsenal and Bournemouth.

However, he was left out of the squad to face Crystal Palace on Friday, 28 August, due to the ongoing speculation around his future ahead of the transfer deadline.

While all signs point towards an exit, with interest from the Toffees, Sunderland and Aston Villa, staying at the Etihad Stadium cannot be ruled out.

Grealish remains a much-loved figure by those in Manchester, and would certainly be welcomed back with open arms if the decision was to keep him.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson suggested that if Man City fail to sign another wide player, Grealish staying wouldn't be the worst idea.

"I guess the bit that we don't know is whether there's any appetite at all to keep him," he said.

"He has come on both in the first game and also in the Community Shield. He did come on as a substitute. So, he can't be that far out of Maresca's mind.

"Especially if Man City don't get a wide player in before the close of the window, I'm not sure Maresca will be desperate to just take any deal.

"Although I do think City would like to sell. We'll see soon enough, I think."

Whether Man City can sign another wide player before the end of the window or not, there should be no signs of worry at the Etihad.

In addition to Antoine Semenyo, and once Jeremy Doku returns from injury, Maresca will have several talents at his disposal for the wings.

Claudio Echeverri could come into the fold this season, while Ryan McAidoo has more than proven himself in friendlies during the summer.

The 18-year-old is a natural right-winger and has been absolutely electric throughout pre-season. Supporters want to see more of him, and Grealish's exit would certainly facilitate that.
