Manchester United are working on deals to lure Manchester City and Liverpool’s rising stars to Old Trafford, sources have told Football Insider.

The 20-times champions are offering terms to the top youth talent at both of their Premier League rivals ahead of the new campaign.

This comes after United recently secured the signing of 18-year-old winger Tynan Thompson from Tottenham Hotspur, in what was regarded as a significant coup for the club.

At least two more deals are now being discussed as Michael Carrick’s side look to bolster the quality in their academies this summer.

United are well known for developing youth players from within their ranks, with Tyler Fletcher being the most recent academy star to make his debut.

The Scotland international came off the bench in a 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur back in February.

But it is seen as more audacious for United to try to lure the best teenagers from not only two of their neighbours, but also two of the world's biggest clubs.

Man United aiming to reclaim academy glory days

Despite Man United’s proud academy, the club has produced few successes in recent years who have gone on to play a key part in their first team.

Kobbie Mainoo is the only current major player in the squad who has come through the academy, with Marcus Rashford spending the last season and a half out on loan.

Others, such as Scott McTominay and Alvaro Carreras, would leave the Red Devils and find success elsewhere.

Therefore, this is a problem that Carrick is no doubt aiming to overcome as the club looks to reclaim its glory days.

However, it remains to be seen if Man United can secure deals from Liverpool and Man City for their rising stars in the coming weeks.

Who else are Man United looking to sign this summer?

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown exclusively told Football Insider that Djed Spence ranks highly on the Red Devils' list of potential full-back targets this summer.

The Tottenham defender had a successful 2026 World Cup with England as they finished third in the tournament.

The 25-year-old has been watched closely by the recruitment team at Old Trafford, with Man United plotting to make a move.

Spurs are expected to listen to offers this transfer window as they look for ways to boost funds.

However, it remains to be seen if a deal can be agreed for the defender as the transfer window nears its conclusion.
