Manchester United line up Manchester City forgotten man – report

Manchester United could move for goalkeeper Joe Hart at rivals Manchester City, according to a report.

The Sun claims that Jose Mourinho is set to lose his number two option Sergio Romero and that Hart could replace him at Old Trafford as David de Gea’s understudy.

It is understood that Hart is seeking a fresh challenge away from the Etihad Stadium, with poor loan spells at Torino and West Ham also under his belt.

Football Insider verdict:

Man United will of course need a new goalkeeper in the summer if Romero does leave and most supporters will understand that the Argentina international needs regular first-team action. However, a move for Hart is surely pure nonsense and it would be a colossal story if he was to make the short move across Manchester. Romero has proven his quality for Man United by keeping 25 clean sheets in 38 appearances across all competitions. Meanwhile, Hart has taken a huge decline in recent years and that was highlighted by a poor string of displays for West Ham. The 31-year-old was omitted from Gareth Southgate’s 23-man England squad and has shown he has big mistakes in him. Sam Johnstone will return to Old Trafford this summer after another impressive loan at Aston Villa and it could be worth promoting him to the first team to play second fiddle to De Gea.
