Carlos Baleba is close to finalising a move to Man United after pushing to leave Brighton in the last few days, sources have told Football Insider.

Baleba has agreed personal terms with United and a full agreement is close with United, who have followed him for over 12 months in their search to find a long-term successor for Casemiro.

The Brighton midfielder has been key to their success over the last few seasons, even if his form did drop off somewhat last term.

United have improved their initial £65million package offer to £70m in the last 24 hours and are now set to finalise a deal.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Baleba will officially become a Man United player this weekend as he finally realises his dream.

He will join a fully overhauled midfield ahead of the new season after the arrivals of Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos.

Carlos Baleba closing in on Man United announcement after breakthrough in talks

Baleba has racked up 92 appearances in the Premier League since joining Brighton from Lille in 2023.

He was largely expected to join the Red Devils this time last year, but then-boss Ruben Amorim decided against signing a new midfielder.

United have been able to prise him from the Amex Stadium for a cut-price fee this summer, after the Seagulls demanded over £100m for his services 12 months ago.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "There are talks ongoing between the two clubs, and I'm sure a compromise can be agreed. The player is keen on the move to Old Trafford as well, so yeah, all signs point to this deal finally getting done and Carlos Baleba becoming a new Manchester United player."

Man United to accelerate left-back pursuit after Baleba arrival

Now that Michael Carrick's midfield overhaul is all but complete, United can fully focus on their next problem position.

They have been after a new left-back all summer as Patrick Dorgu moves into an attacking position, but look unlikely to complete a deal for Newcastle starlet Lewis Hall.

Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that United are accelerating their plans to sign a new left-back for the remainder of the summer window.

Club Brugge's Joaquin Seys and RB Leipzig defender David Raum are both targets for the position as it stands.
