Man United complete 'one of the biggest deals that's ever been done'
Manchester United have completed "one of the biggest deals" in footballing history with a new training kit sponsorship.
That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that both Man United and Betway are set to profit from a new partnership.
With the Premier League introducing a ban on front-of-shirt gambling sponsorships, clubs have been forced to seek different avenues for financial gain.
On Wednesday, 5 August, the Red Devils announced Betway as the club's official training kit sponsor, believed to be worth in the region of £20million.
The multi-year partnership is expected to be a record-breaking fee for training kit deals. Unsurprisingly, though, the official figure has not been confirmed.
It is expected that the deal will have further positive repercussions across the board at Old Trafford, especially when it comes to the rebuilding of Michael Carrick's team.
Man United offer 'great exposure' to Betway
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson praised the deal struck by United, stating that fans will soon find out the confirmed figure in the club's accounts.
"It won't be far off. Betway need to find places they can spend the money. United is obviously a great place to spend the money," he said.
"The training kit is a decent spot. I think what will have happened is that the clubs that have sold the training kit will have offered quite a lot of exposure.
"It's a way in which the betting sponsors can still get good coverage without having the front-of-shirt. And a way the clubs can still get full dollar and full value from the betting sponsors.
"I suspect it works for both. And I suspect it is, as United say, the highest. We'll find out probably exactly what it's worth in the accounts because the disclosures have to be much more detailed in Manchester United's New York accounts.
So we might find out more precisely what it is, but it won't be far off that. It'll be one of the biggest deals that's been done for a training kit.
"I can understand it from that way as well. It makes sense. They can't get front of the shirt. What's the next best thing?"
Michael Carrick not done in the transfer market yet
Carrick has added Youri Tielemans, Karl Darlow and Andrey Santos to his squad, and Borson is expecting one big transfer before the window closes.
There are likely to be a couple outgoings as well. Many thought this would be the end of Mason Mount, but he is now believed to have a big role ahead of next season.
Manuel Ugarte looks set to leave before his season-ending injury, while Marcus Rashford, Joshua Zirkzee and Harry Amass all remain big talking points.
