Man United have 'faith' in Michael Carrick transforming fortunes, this is why he won't be sacked

Man United are not planning to sack Michael Carrick because of the credit he has in the bank from last season, sources have told Football Insider.

Carrick, 45, guided the Red Devils back into the Champions League last term after overseeing a successful five-month spell as interim manager.

They have struggled to string results together since he was handed the reins permanently in May, leading to question marks around his future at the helm.

United are sitting 12th in the Premier League with just two wins in seven games across all competitions, but the board have no immediate plans to relieve him of his duties.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Old Trafford chiefs are counting on him to help the team rediscover the form he helped them show in the second half of last season.

He earned enough plaudits from inside the club during his interim spell to be given the chance to turn things around in the coming months.

Carrick guided United to 11 wins from 16 games in charge last season as they ultimately finished third in the Premier League.

Their current run of form has left a lot to be desired, yet his job is safe for now as United's board have seen enough to give him a better chance this season.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "I don't think there'll be any knee-jerk reactions over Michael Carrick's future. You've got to remember how well he did as interim manager last year, getting them into the Champions League. That's why he got the job on a full-time basis.

"So look, he still has a lot of credit in the bank from that and a lot of faith at that it can turn things around."

Carrick is safe for now, but some more poor results in the coming weeks and months may well see him out of a job if the feeling changes within the boardroom.

Brighton manager Hurzeler is believed to be high up on their shortlist of potential replacements for the ex-England international.

Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that United would have to spend close to £15million in compensation to land Hurzeler this season.

Brighton are keen to keep hold of their manager after such a strong start to the campaign, with the club sat third in the Premier League right now.
