Man United insider reveals how Marcus Rashford has reacted behind the scenes to failed transfer

Manchester United have been "delighted" by Marcus Rashford's attitude since he returned to the club from Barcelona.

The 28-year-old has featured in all three of the Red Devils' Premier League games so far this season, and impressed with his performances in starts against Ipswich and Everton.

Despite having missed out on his preferred permanent move to Barcelona in the summer, there are believed to have been no issues behind the scenes, despite some concerns.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Rashford has put any lingering problems behind him and is set to play a big role under Michael Carrick.

Speculation about the England international's future was rife througout the summer, with multiple clubs interested, but he instead opted to remain at Old Trafford.

While some had expected him to "make a fuss" in order to secure a move away, sources say he has got his head down in training and worked hard to earn a place in the side.

Why did Marcus Rashford return to Man United?

Brown told Football Insider on 25 August that Rashford held clear-the-air talks with the Man United hierarchy following his return amid suggestions of bad blood between them.

After Barcelona opted not to trigger his £26million option to buy following a strong loan spell, he was integrated back into Carrick's plans to bolster his attacking options.

Three games into the new season, Rashford is impressing on and off the pitch, and has received plaudits for how he has handled his dramatic return to Old Trafford.

"Marcus Rashford is a top-class player, he always has been, everybody knows that," Brown told Football Insider.

"The problem Man United had was whether or not he would come back with the right attitude, or if he would just make a fuss in an attempt to get another move away.

"But from what I'm told, they are delighted with the way he's handled the situation, he's come back, got his head down, worked hard and now he's back in the starting XI.

"He obviously has a good relationship with Michael Carrick, and he can be a very important players for Man United this season.

"I thought he was terrific against Everton, he did everything we all know Marcus Rashford can do, and Man United will be relying on him to keep up those performances.

"But when you see players pushing to move away, refusing to train, stuff like that, the way Rashford has handled the situation despite the issues he had with the club is a real testament to his character."

Which clubs were interested in signing Rashford?

After Rashford missed out on his preferred move to Barcelona earlier in the summer, a host of clubs in the Premier League and across Europe were keeping an eye on his situation.

The likes of Tottenham and Newcastle were linked, while Turkish giants Fenerbahce also considered a move in the closing stages of the transfer window.

However, Football Insider revealed on 10 August that Rashford was not interested in a move to Fenerbahce and instead planned to remain at the top level with Man United.

He was keen to stay at Barcelona after an impressive loan spell, but they decided against triggering his option-to-buy clause or pursuing another permanent deal.

After that, he remained committed to Man United, returned for pre-season training and has now established himself as an important part of their long-term plans.
