Man United told what it will cost to sign Lewis Hall in January
Manchester United have been told they will have to pay upwards of £70million for Lewis Hall, sources have told Football Insider.
The 22-year-old was a top target for the Red Devils during the summer transfer window but they ultimately opted to prioritise other positions with midfield reinforcements.
He has since penned a new deal at St James' Park to extend his stay until 2031, but that has done little to deter the long-term interest in eventually luring him to Old Trafford.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Hall remains a leading target for Man United and they could make a fresh move next summer.
Any January exit will be ruled out by Newcastle, as it was during the summer window, but Michael Carrick's side are not walking away as he remains a top target.
All eyes will be on Hall's future next summer, and while a deal will not come cheap, Man United believe they can get a deal done despite his commitment to Newcastle.
Will Man United make a new move for Lewis Hall?
Football Insider revealed last month that Man United remain firmly interested in signing Hall despite having missed out during the summer, and have not been deterred.
His new contract has put Newcastle firmly in control of his future, and any deal will have to be on their terms, while he remains a crucial part of Matthias Jaissle's plans.
Hall's future will likely dominate headlines between now and the end of the season, with Man United keeping tabs on his situation, while Newcastle plan to drive a high price.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "It's obviously going to be harder to get Lewis Hall out of Newcastle United.
"But look, United's interest is still there. The price tag was prohibitive in the summer as well, but United's interest I don't think will go away any time soon.
"They do like Lewis Hall and see him as somebody who could come in there and become a mainstay for them at left back for the foreseeable future in that side.
"But he'll cost at least £70million plus, probably, due to his contract situation and obviously he's continuing to enhance his reputation with his performances for Newcastle and England."
How does Hall feel about leaving Newcastle?
Man United's chances of signing Hall next summer will depend largely on Newcastle's stance, but with the club unwilling to see him go, the left-back will also play a key role.
The England international remains high on United's list of targets as they eye a defensive overhaul, but he is believed to be happy at St James' Park as things stand.
Football Insider revealed on 20 October that Hall was open to joining Man United during the summer and has not ruled out the possibility of the switch taking place.
While he ultimately missed out on the move due to Newcastle's demands, which could happen again next summer, there is believed to be a mutual admiration between them.
