Man United's 'surprise' Dominic Calvert-Lewin stance revealed
Manchester United are not considering a move to sign Leeds United star Dominic Calvert-Lewin despite recent speculation.
The 29-year-old has made headlines of late after an impressive start to the season under Daniel Farke, leading to speculation about his long-term future at Elland Road.
Links with a move to Old Trafford come as Michael Carrick is lacking depth behind Benjamin Sesko, and they could be tempted to sign a new striker in the January transfer window.
However, former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Calvert-Lewin is not on the club's shortlist and there are currently no plans to pursue his signature.
Leeds, meanwhile, have no intention of losing their star striker and would be reluctant to sell to a direct rival given his importance to their side and any success they have.
While there may be interest in Calvert-Lewin from elsewhere, Man United are likely to assess alternative targets should they decide to sign a striker in the mid-season window.
Could Man United make a move for Dominic Calvert-Lewin?
Football Insider revealed on 19 September that Leeds are not happy with the speculation surrounding Calvert-Lewin after Michael Owen tipped him to join a "bigger club".
The former England striker suggested Man United should have signed the striker on a free transfer following his departure from Everton before Leeds could do a deal.
However, that was never on the cards and any suggestions have now been dismissed, with Leeds hoping to keep their star man and Man United showing no interest.
"I'm told there's nothing in the links with Calvert-Lewin and Man United," Brown told Football
"It's very easy for Michael Owen to come out now when he's is scoring goals and playing well, but nobody was saying Man United should have signed him at the time.
"He was struggling with fitness, struggling in front of goal, and Everton decided to let him go on a free. It would have been a strange move for Man United to make.
"I'm glad he's finally showing the sort of form everybody expected of him, but Man United are not going to make a move for him.
"They might want a new striker to compete with Sesko, but I expect they'll be looking elsewhere, which some will see as a surprise, although it would be difficult to do a deal with Leeds anyway."
How do Leeds feel about losing Calvert-Lewin?
Man United can now be ruled out of contention for Calvert-Lewin given their lack of interest, but there are likely to be suitors elsewhere as a result of his impressive displays.
Leeds, however, have no intention of losing the striker in the near future as he remains a crucial part of their side under Farke both now and in their ambitious long-term plans.
As a result, Brown told Football Insider on 23 September that Calvert-Lewin could be in line for a new contract at Leeds, with talks to take place in the coming weeks.
The 29-year-old has enjoyed a strong start to the season, having scored three goals in five Premier League games and helped his side rise to fifth in the table.
Calvert-Lewin's current deal at Elland Road is set to run until 2028, and despite no suggestions that he could leave any time soon, Leeds hope to get him tied down long-term.
