Marcus Rashford to Chelsea: Significant update on Man United transfer
Marcus Rashford has no plans to leave Manchester United for Chelsea in the closing stages of the window, sources have told Football Insider.
Xabi Alonso's side have become the latest club to be linked with a move for the 28-year-old, as his future at Old Trafford remains up in the air despite his return to their plans and place in their starting XI against Ipswich Town on Sunday.
Man United were looking to cash in on the England international earlier in the transfer window, but could now make a U-turn, while the winger's opinion could be crucial.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Rashford has no plans to join another Premier League club and would prefer to stay at United.
Chelsea, Tottenham and Newcastle have all shown an interest in the forward this summer, but look set to be disappointed as he remains part of Michael Carrick's plans.
The Red Devils, meanwhile, will insist any move is permanent and will not sanction another loan after his spell at Barcelona last season, adding further complications to the deal.
Could Chelsea make a move to sign Marcus Rashford?
Former Aston Villa scout Bryan King told Football Insider on 6 August that Rashford is attracting interest from a number of clubs in the closing stages of the summer window.
Multiple Premier League clubs, as well as potential suitors in Europe, have been keeping a close eye on his situation with Chelsea likely the most high-profile among them.
However, with Carrick planning to utilise Rashford as part of his squad, and the forward reluctant to move elsewhere in England, he could be set to remain at Old Trafford.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "I'd be very surprised if anything happened with regard to Marcus Rashford and Chelsea.
"Carrick is thinking of keeping Rashford around for Manchester United this season because he knows they're going have a lot of games, Premier League, Champions League and everything else.
"So United I don't think will be willing to sanction another loan move for Rashford like they did when he went to Barcelona last year. If he was to leave it would only be a permanent sale.
"And I think it's a non-starter because I don't think United ideally would like to see Rashford go to a Premier League rival.
"And for the player himself, I don't think he sees himself playing for a Premier League rival against his beloved Manchester United.
"I think it's a non-starter for various reasons. I don't see Chelsea being a serious option for Marcus Rashford right now."
What is Man United's stance on Rashford's future?
Much of Rashford's future at Man United will depend on the club's stance, with questions having been asked about his role since he returned from his spell at Barcelona.
His lofty wage bill alongside ongoing issues behind the scenes have led to ongoing speculation, with a number of clubs tempted to swoop if they open the door.
However, former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 25 August that Rashford has held talks with club chiefs to clear the air after previous disagreements.
The England international left Old Trafford to join Aston Villa on loan in 2025, before his spell at Barcelona, as he was no longer happy with his position at the club.
Despite that, there is now a feeling that he will remain at Man United as a key part of Carrick's plans for the sesaon, having resolved any lingering concerns behind the scenes.
