Neco Williams further proved why Man United should push to seal his services with another great display for Wales against Norway.

Williams was closely linked away from Nottingham Forest in the summer as Man United registered an interest in his services among other clubs.

He won the Reds' Player of the Season award for last term after some impressively consistent performances from left-back.

Forest tied him down to a new contract last month after warding off interest from different sides, but rumours have persisted over his future.

United have been handed another reason to push to sign him in January after his latest stellar display on the international stage.

Williams bagged his first goal of the season on Thursday to fire Wales to a vital 2-1 Nations League win over Norway.

Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that those at Forest are concerned about Williams' future at the club despite his recent contract extension.

The former Liverpool man has been a mainstay at wing-back for Oliver Glasner's side after registering six goal contributions in 53 appearances last term.

His fine form continued on Thursday with a sumptuous 48th-minute free-kick to win the Nations League clash for his country.

Williams completed 38 passes, with nine into the final third, while he also created one chance and made eight defensive contributions.

The 25-year-old also won the most ground duels (5) of any player on the pitch and was fouled twice in a stellar display at the Cardiff City Stadium.

United's ongoing search for a new left-back to compete with Luke Shaw should see them return to the table for Williams' signature midway through the campaign.

He clearly has the ability to be a regular at Old Trafford for several years to come, and it feels like a matter of time until he moves to a bigger club to further his career.

Which other left-backs have United been linked to?

Michael Carrick reportedly made it clear to United's chiefs that he wanted a new left-back in the summer, but they failed to meet his wishes, much to the detriment of his squad.

Williams was not the only player in the position on their radar, with several targets still being eyed ahead of January.

Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that United retain an interest in Crystal Palace's Tyrick Mitchell as he nears the end of his contract there next June.

The likes of Alejandro Balde and Antonee Robinson also reportedly remain on their radar, but Lewis Hall is unlikely to move to Old Trafford after signing a new Newcastle contract.
