Mane has ‘made it clear to his agents’ where his future lies after Liverpool update – pundit

Danny Mills has insisted Liverpool will have no problem in securing Sadio Mane to a new contract.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Premier League and England defender claimed preliminary negotiations would not take place if Mane wanted to quit the club.

Fabrizio Romano reported on his Here We Go Podcast (November 23) Liverpool are preparing to make contact with Mane and his representatives over a new deal.

The winger is out of contract at Anfield in the summer of 2023.

Asked whether the Merseyside giants should be worried about his situation, Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “No.

“Players aren’t daft. They know what they are doing, they know the situation.

“They play the game a little bit. He’s happy to stay – otherwise you wouldn’t open negotiations. I’m sure he’s made it clear to his agents what he wants and now it is up for them to get on with it.

“A year, 18 months, you’ve got the African Cup of Nations in there as well, it’s a long time in football.

“It’s a long time to sit out, to sit out 18 months is hard work. If you don’t want to be there, to sit there and wait on your future, it’s difficult.

“It’s about the right time to open talks with 18 months left. It’s a long way out.

“They’ll make him an offer and he’ll make it clear if he wants to stay or go. Then it’s just about numbers.”

Mane has not been at his best this season but has still scored nine times in 18 appearances in all competitions.

The Senegal captain, 29, became the 18th player to score 100 goals for the club earlier this season and his tally now stands at 106.

In other news, Liverpool have made an approach to sign an ‘incredible’ Premier League forward and the door is open for a move.
