Marc Cucurella responds to bizarre Man United post from Mason Mount
Marc Cucurella has responded to an odd social media post from Mason Mount after Man United picked up a 2-1 win over Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League.
After an Andre Onana error had gifted the hosts the lead in Czechia, a brace from Rasmus Hojlund turned the game around to secure a 2-1 win for Ruben Amorim’s side on Thursday (12 December).
Mount came off the bench with half an hour remaining of the game, and missed a huge chance to get on the scoresheet when he fired straight at goalkeeper Martin Jedlicka when one-on-one in the area.
As he took to Instagram to react to that win and shift the focus to the Manchester derby at the weekend, the Man United man strangely included a picture of him missing that chance.
Cucurella, who spent a year alongside Mount at Chelsea in the 2022/23 season before the latter’s move to Old Trafford was seemingly keen to show his support for his former teammate, by liking that post.

This does seem like something of a strange picture for the 25-year-old to have included in his round-up from the game in the circumstances.
Mount has still not made the sort of impact many would have hoped for since he joined the Red Devils in a big-money move worth £55million (BBC Sport) 18 months ago.

Indeed, there have already been some suggestions that Man United are open to selling him when the transfer window reopens.
It is therefore hard to know why Mount would want to remind himself or others about that big chance he missed against Plzen, in the latest game where Amorim’s side flattered to deceive.
All that may do is add some more pressure onto him ahead of a huge game against Man City at the weekend, where they may feel they have a chance to get one over their local rivals thanks to Pep Guardiola’s own struggles.
How Mount is used and how he performs in that game will no doubt be of great interest to many observers, and potentially even more so with his future unclear and a big missed chance for an impact in midweek.
