Marc Guehi now key to Premier League title after new developments at Arsenal

Mikel Arteta must put all his energy into signing Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi despite a goalless draw against Liverpool on Thursday.

Gabriel Magalhaes has also returned recently, returning to his centre-back partnership with William Saliba, and despite several injury issues, Arteta’s side remain top of the Premier League table.

Arsenal are still managing Kai Havertz’s minutes, and with Riccardo Calafiori and Cristhian Mosquera both sidelined, the treatment table appears to be stacking up again in North London.

Given all of these setbacks, the manager will have to take positives from the frustrating draw against the Reds on 8 January, but another defensive injury is the last thing needed for the second half of the season.

Another Piero Hincapie blow emerges for Arsenal

Myles Lewis-Skelly has been earning more minutes in recent weeks, and the 19-year-old was called upon again after just 57 minutes, coming on for a distraught Piero Hincapie.

Hincapie had played five consecutive 90 minutes before needing medical treatment against Liverpool, but his face said everything as the Ecuadorian trudged off the pitch with the staff.

There has been a lack of any update on his current state, causing even more worry for the home supporters, and many are beginning to fear the worst for their ever-shrinking back line.

With Man City busy getting a deal done for Antoine Semenyo, the Gunners have been left with the perfect chance to snatch Guehi’s signature amid a plethora of interested clubs.

Marc Guehi is the simple fix for Mikel Arteta

While Hincapie has missed eight games for club and country at the beginning of 2025-26, via a groin problem, the 23-year-old has rarely had issues on the pitch in his previous spells elsewhere.

However, the latest blow on the pitch is the perfect excuse for Arteta to push for Guehi’s signature, even though many reports suggest that no move will be made until the summer transfer window.

It makes a lot of sense for clubs to wait until the England international is available on a free transfer, but with the Gunners on the hunt for their first Premier League title under Arteta, it is a no-brainer.

Arteta’s side must play four games over the next 12 days. With aspirations of winning multiple titles this season, the Londoners may have to dive into the January transfer market for reinforcements.
