Marcelo Bielsa: Ex-Leeds United star turns on manager – ‘this needs to be said’

Marcelo Bielsa must change his side’s approach if Leeds United are to remain in the Premier League.

That’s according to former Whites stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about his former side’s poor form.

Leeds were hammered 6-0 by Liverpool on Wednesday night (23 February) leaving them three points off the relegation zone.

As quoted by BBC reporter Adam Pope after the game, Bielsa hinted he would not be changing his side’s approach.

He admitted a change of style “won’t change what is happening to us”.

Kenny insists Leeds will be relegated if Bielsa doesn’t find a new way to play.

“Something has to change. Bielsa only has one way of playing and he sticks to it,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Look, that doesn’t work, I’m sorry, it needs to be said. You have to be able to adjust.

“You have to be able to adapt to the opposition you are playing and to changes that happen in the match.

“Things won’t always go your way. You look and they have conceded nearly 20 goals in four games.

“This is very worrying for me and Leeds will be in real trouble if they keep conceding.

“They can’t keep conceding four or six goals because there is no chance they will score that many goals back.

“Playing expansive football is great but it won’t win you games at the bottom of the Premier League.”

Leeds United

Leeds have lost seven of their last 10 Premier League games.

They face Tottenham at Elland Road on Saturday (26 February).
