Marcelo Bielsa ‘highly likely’ to quit Leeds amid confirmed news – Mills

It is “highly likely” Marcelo Bielsa will quit Leeds United at the end of the season, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Whites and England full-back insisted the club will be in talks with Bielsa as reports of a succession plan pick up pace.

The Telegraph reported on Thursday (17 February) Jesse Marsch is the preferred candidate if the 66-year-old decides to call it a day when his contract expires at the end of the season.

The same outlet reported earlier this month (10 February) Marsch was on an initial shortlist alongside Ernesto Valverde and Carlos Corberán on a three-man shortlist to replace the Argentine this summer.

As quoted by Leeds Live on Friday (18 February), Bielsa confirmed there have been no talks about his future thus far.

“I think it’s highly likely that this will be Marcelo Bielsa’s last season,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“There’s more chatter than ever before. Clearly, Leeds are looking at, he likes to sign these one-year deals so there must be a plan in place if he doesn’t.

“They must be chatting to him, getting an indication of what he’s going to do. You’ve also obviously got potential new owners in the 49ers and I assume they will add some more investment once the Augustin case is settled.

“This year more than ever, yes, it’s highly likely that it could be Bielsa’s last year at Leeds.”

Bielsa had not spent more than two years at one club before his time at Leeds but is in his fourth season at Elland Road.

He has always signed one-year deals with the club.
