‘Marco Silva is the best Tottenham candidate’ – Levy to green light move

Fulham boss Marco Silva has been linked with the job at Tottenham with Ange Postecoglou under serious sack pressure ahead of the summer.

Postecoglou is not likely to cling on in the dugout past the end of the 2024-25 campaign if he doesn’t deliver Europa League success.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (31 March) that Tottenham are also scouring the overseas market for their next manager – despite links with Silva, Andoni Iraola and Thomas Frank.

Fulham boss Silva has been with the Cottagers since 2021 and has the London club sitting ninth in the Premier League.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has suggested why Levy will turn to Silva over any other option this summer.

‘Silva is a Levy character’, says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness claimed Silva’s experience on a “tight budget” at Fulham will stand him in good stead with Spurs.

The Portuguese boss has just over 12 months left to run on his contract at Craven Cottage.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Silva is probably more in the running than Iraola.

“I think he’s more of a Levy character, he’s got the London experience – performing well with Fulham.

“He’s been with Everton, Watford – he’s got the runs on the board.

“I think he would operate at Spurs quite well. He’s done well on a tight budget with Fulham, and that’s what Levy will be looking for.

“We’ve seen the numbers at Tottenham, they’re not spending much on wages or fees – it’s very low.”

Tottenham captain Cristian Romero running
Romero has just over two years left on his contract at Tottenham.

Tottenham star Romero could quit for just £50m

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (31 March) that Tottenham star Cristian Romero could be prised away from the club with a bid of just £50million this summer.

Atletico Madrid are the latest top side to be linked with a potential swoop for the 26-year-old centre-back – while Real Madrid have held a historic interest.

Romero is believed to be keen to play regular Champions League football and fight for trophies.
