Marcus Rashford and Calvert-Lewin react to Ashley Young’s emotional Everton message
Ashley Young has played his final game for Everton after their win over Newcastle and had a message for the supporters.
Everton ended their season on a high with a 1-0 victory at St James’ Park, wrapping up a mixed campaign with a hard-fought three points.
Young is one of eight players whose contracts are set to expire next month, as the club prepares for a summer overhaul.
Young has already confirmed his departure from Everton, bringing an end to his time on Merseyside after being reduced to a rotational role under David Moyes.
Despite limited minutes, the 40-year-old had nothing but gratitude for the fans, delivering an emotional message after his final outing in an Everton shirt.
Ashley Young joins Abdoulaye Doucoure in Everton summer exit
Young posted an emotional message on Instagram after Everton’s final-day win over Newcastle, which drew plenty of reactions from players across the Premier League.
He wrote: “Team, Togetherness, Team Spirit. Yes there’s a few missing but I’ve loved every minute with you all, what a bond I’ve made and I will continue to follow you all! Thanks Boys it’s been a pleasure sharing these 2 seasons with you.”
The message was met with support from his current teammates, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin responding with a goat emoji, and Abdoulaye Doucoure — who is also set to leave Everton — leaving a heart emoji.
Other players, including Marcus Rashford and John McGinn, showed their appreciation by liking the post.
The 40-year-old has featured in 70 matches for Everton across two seasons, operating mainly as a utility player. During his time at the club, he scored two goals and registered four assists.
Football Insider revealed Moyes does not see Young as part of his plans going forward, which led to the club opting against offering the veteran an extension.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin future still unresolved amid contract expiry
Calvert-Lewin is another key Everton player whose contract is set to expire next month, with his future still undecided.
Football Insider reported on 22 May that Calvert-Lewin is expected to take his time before making a final decision.
Everton remain keen to keep hold of the 28-year-old, whose current deal runs until 30 June — after which he will be free to leave on a free transfer.
He has managed three goals and two assists this season, and despite inconsistent form, Moyes is eager to keep Calvert-Lewin as part of the squad.
With past interest from Newcastle and Sheffield United, it remains to be seen whether Everton can convince him to commit his future to the club.
