Marcus Rashford has a ‘big problem’ at Man United after ‘baffling’ update – pundit

Marcus Rashford looks “uninterested” at Man United and Ralf Rangnick was right to snub him against Leicester City on Saturday (2 April), according to Noel Whelan.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, speculated a “behind the scenes” problem could be contributing to the 24-year-old’s struggles.

Man United started without a recognised striker as they drew 1-1 with Leicester, with Rashford named on the bench for the fifth time in six games.

According to the Manchester Evening News (4 April), Rangnick’s choice to start Bruno Fernandes over the England international has left some teammates “baffled”.

A source with knowledge of Rashford’s situation told Football Insider (26 March) that the player has informed friends that he’s ready to leave Man United this summer.

Whelan suggested the forward may have lost his “desire and passion” after a tough spell at Old Trafford.

“He hasn’t done enough to warrant a start,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“In fact, he hasn’t done anything of note at Man United for a long time. I don’t know what’s happened this season.

“Whether he’s lost that desire, that passion, the hard graft – I don’t know. He doesn’t look excited out there anymore.

“That’s a big problem. We want to see him with that energy, that pace, the skill and the directness. But whether it’s a behind the scenes problem, I don’t know – but he looks uninterested at the moment.

“He used to play with a smile on his face, but we don’t see much of that anymore.”

Rashford has netted just five goals in 27 appearances this season.

He is out of contract in 2023, with Man United holding an option for an extra year.
