Marcus Rashford: Man United star ‘not in a happy place’ after source reveals latest – expert

Marcus Rashford must wait for Ralf Rangnick’s successor to be appointed before deciding his Man United future, according to Noel Whelan.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 24-year-old is in “desperate need” of a confidence boost after a below-par season.

A source with knowledge of Rashford’s situation has told Football Insider (26 March) that the forward has informed those close to him that he is ready to leave Man United this summer in order to reignite his career.

The England international has a contract that runs until the summer of 2023 and includes the option of a further 12 months.

According to the Mirror (26 March), Arsenal are planning to offer Rashford an escape from Old Trafford when the transfer window opens.

Whelan insisted the Red Devils star could still have a “part to play” at the club after interim boss Rangnick departs this summer.

“I don’t think any manager potentially coming into Man United right now is going to want any players to leave,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“He needs to see these players, work with them, and find out what he wants to do going forward.

“It doesn’t really matter what Rashford wants right now, or Arsenal – nor any club linked with him.

“He’s a Man United player. Yes, there needs to be a complete rebuild but Rashford could still have a part to play.

“He’s not in a happy place, but a new manager could breathe that life back into him and bring that confidence back into his game – he desperately needs that.”
