Marcus Rashford reacts to Rasmus Hojlund’s Man United message – ‘I needed that’

Rasmus Hojlund sent a message to Manchester United fans after he netted just his second goal in 29 games against Bournemouth.

The Red Devils left the Vitality Stadium with a hard-fought point against Andoni Iraola‘s 10-man Cherries, and recorded a 1-1 draw thanks to Hojlund‘s finish in the sixth minute of second-half stoppage time.

Sunday’s match wasn’t short on controversy, as ex-PGMOL chief Keith Hackett told Football Insider that Peter Bankes was wrong to dismiss Bournemouth’s Evanilson for his challenge on Noussair Mazraoui.

Ruben Amorim‘s side climb above Everton into 14th place as a result, and while United are still set for a worst-ever Premier League finish, a possible Europa League title is their chance to salvage the season.

Rasmus Hojlund sends message after Man United breakthrough

Amorim’s side had been up against it on the south coast prior to Evanilson’s red card, as United target Antoine Semenyo slammed home Bournemouth’s opener in a first half dominated by the home side.

However, Man United would have the last laugh as their pressure finally paid off in the sixth minute of nine added on, as Hojlund steered Manuel Ugarte’s pass beyond Kepa Arrizabalaga at the near post.

Hojlund’s form this season hasn’t come close to the heights expected of a Man United number nine, and that late equaliser was the Dane’s first since he broke a 21-game drought against Leicester last month.

At full-time (27 April), Hojlund took to Instagram in a post which both Rio Ferdinand and Aston Villa loanee Marcus Rashford liked, saying: “We wanted the win, but I needed that.”

Rasmus Hojlund can still revive Man United career

There’s little doubt that big changes will be afoot at Old Trafford this summer as Amorim looks to rebuild from a season to forget, and even less that a new centre-forward is needed for Man United to compete.

Hojlund’s future is therefore under a cloud as the transfer window approaches, and experienced scout Mick Brown told Football Insider his former employers could accept a “cut-price offer” from Juventus.

Chido Obi Martin’s performances since his arrival from Arsenal have provided United fans with much more encouragement than those of Hojlund, but it remains to be seen who Amorim’s first-choice number nine will be next season.
