‘It’s not as easy’ – Mark Allen details stunning revelation about Rangers manager hunt

Rangers director of football Mark Allen has stunningly revealed that he handed a list of potential managers to the board just two days after Pedro Caixinha was sacked.

Despite having this information, the Light Blues spent several weeks before making any significant movement in their bid to replace Caixinha, who was sacked in October.

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes was the number one target before he snubbed the chance to move to Ibrox after an approach was finally made in early December.

That forced the Gers to announce that Graeme Murty would stay in charge until January, although on Friday it was confirmed that he would remain in the hotseat until the end of the season.

Allen, who has been widely criticised in the process of finding a new boss, has now revealed that the board had a list of names to pursue just 48 hours after Caixinha was shown the door on October 26.

However the director of football admits that it wasn’t as easy as it appears to appoint a new boss.

“Yes, I had a list within two days,” he said when asked if he had prepared a shortlist, as quoted by the Daily Record.

“In an ideal world, you would like it to be something that happens very quickly seamlessly.

“But when you are confronted with different obstacles it’s not as easy to do those things very quickly.

“My role was to present the potential solutions to the board to make that decision, and for us to pursue them, which we did.”

Rangers suffered a mix spell of form under Murty’s caretaker leadership, winning six of nine games, beating the likes of Aberdeen and Hibernian but losing to Dundee, Hamilton and St Johnstone.

Murty’s spell in charge as manager until the end of the season didn’t exactly get off to a good start on Saturday either as he saw his side let slip of a lead to lose 2-1 to Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.
