Mark Lawrenson predicts Liverpool v Everton

Mark Lawrenson has tipped a 1-1 draw when Liverpool visit their Merseyside rivals Everton at Goodison Park on Monday.

The Reds face an away match against their bitter rivals in the Premier League and will be looking to consolidate second-place in the table.

Jurgen Klopp’s side moved up to second with a convincing 3-0 away victory against Middlesbrough on Wednesday and are six points behind leaders Chelsea.

Everton completed a shock 2-1 home victory against in-form Arsenal on Tuesday and are chasing a European spot this season.

Lawrenson has confessed that he is struggling to predict the outcome of the Merseyside derby and claims that form goes out of the window in what will be a “mad game”.

“I am going to go with a draw, purely because I don’t know what is going to happen,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport. “These are always just absolutely mad games and, whoever is top or bottom, form has absolutely no bearing on the outcome.”

Liverpool are regarded as serious contenders for the Premier League title this season and have looked extremely impressive in attack.

The Reds are the league’s top scorers with 40 goals in the opening 16 games but have conceded 20 times, which is nine more than Chelsea and Tottenham (11).

Klopp made the decision to drop regular goalkeeper Loris Karius against Middlesbrough and his understudy Simon Mignolet impressed with his opportunity.

The Belgian international is likely to start against Everton and will be wary of compatriot Romelu Lukaku, who has scored nine goals in 16 appearances across all competitions this season.

In the latest Liverpool news, Jan Molby has shared his frustration with the club’s player and compared him to Emmanuel Adebayor.
