Mark Lawrenson predicts Tottenham v Middlesbrough

By Harvey Byrne

Mark Lawrenson has predicted a Tottenham victory in their Saturday clash against Middlesbrough.

The north London club are currently flying high in second place despite their 0-0 draw with Sunderland in midweek.

Meanwhile, Boro are struggling in 15th with two points separating them from the relegation zone.

The two sides have already met this season with a Son Heung-min double cancelling out a Ben Gibson goal to give Spurs a 2-1 win in September.

Lawrenson believes the outcome will be the same on Saturday and has gone for a 2-0 Tottenham victory due to Spurs’ great home form.

“Tottenham struggled to create chances at Sunderland and will consider that draw to be two points dropped,” told Lawrenson to the BBC Sport website.

“Middlesbrough will also try to shut them out but Spurs have been in great form at home and I do not see it happening.”

If the league table was decided by home matches Tottenham would still be sat in second, but within just one point of leaders Chelsea.

Their away form is however considerably worse and they would be sat as low as sixth place and even three points off Manchester United in fifth.

Tottenham also boast a good defensive record in the league this season and are joint first in the goals against tally with just 16 conceded from their 23 matches.

Middlesbrough have problems at the other end of the pitch and they have the worst goals for total with just 19 strikes, which could work in Spurs’ favour on Saturday.
