Mark van Bommel has key trait that Russell Martin was missing at Rangers
Rangers candidate Mark van Bommel already has one thing that could change the fortunes of the club around on the pitch.
Van Bommel is interested in the Rangers vacancy after the club sacked Russell Martin following a 1-1 draw at Falkirk.
Martin lasted only 123 days in charge at Rangers, following a disastrous reign which leaves them eighth in the Scottish Premiership.
Steven Gerrard is in the running to return to Rangers, whilst the likes of Kevin Muscat, Sean Dyche and Dany Rohl are also in the frame to replace Martin.

Mark van Bommel names skill needed to get results amid Rangers links
Van Bommel has been out of work since May 2024, after a two-year spell at Royal Antwerp in Belgium.
The Dutchman has previously spoken at a key trait needed to get results, which Martin did not have at Rangers.
“But let me be clear, I never once harbored doubts about my suitability for this profession,” van Bommel said.
“It might come across as arrogant, but I’ve always had confidence in the fact that my footballing ideas and my approach to players have consistently been sound.

“I genuinely believe that the latter is crucial. To be a successful coach, you must be capable of convincing players because they are discerning individuals.
“No matter where I’ve been, be it PSV or Wolfsburg, I’ve consistently been able to win players over. The players know that I empathize with their feelings.“
Martin ultimately failed to convince the players of his methods with constant underperformances from stars not helping results on the pitch.
Rangers stars need new manager to reignite season
Any new Rangers manager will need to know how to get the best out of the squad, and the 11 signings Martin made in the summer.
Mikey Moore has been criticised by Rangers fans for his performances since joining on loan from Spurs, with Thelo Aasgaard also suffering the same fate.
Bojan Miovski netted his first league goal for the club at Falkirk, which could be the first of many, but Chermiti from Everton has yet to get off the mark.
Rangers have only scored six goals in seven league games, so the next manager needs to get more out of the wide players and create more chances for Miovski.
There is plenty to do, with the January transfer window also set to be a busy one of the next Rangers manager.
