Mason Mount doubts at Man United after Chelsea joy at exit: ‘Is he really injured?’

Mason Mount’s injury absences at Man United have been questioned by a club legend in relation to whether he really wants to play football after his latest injury update.

Chelsea told Mount he was free to leave the club in 2023, with just one year remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge.

Despite links to Liverpool, United leapt at the opportunity, shelling out an initial £55million [Sky Sports] for the talented England international.

However, the former Chelsea midfielder has struggled for both form, and fitness during his time at the club, making only 22 Premier League appearances in two seasons, with indications Man United were considering selling Mount in the winter transfer window.

Paul Parker questions whether Mason Mount is really injured

Ex-England international Parker delivered a scathing review of Mount’s time at United, with the former United defender calling him a “disaster” and questioning whether he was really injured, while claiming the Blues were delighted to flog him to Old Trafford.

Parker said, via The Mirror: “Mason Mount is one of the worst signings ever, like, in the history of football. It’s literally a catastrophe.

“He’s a disaster and he was that in Chelsea as well, so I can’t get my head around why United decided to bring him in.

“I have always said that I don’t know what his best position is. I don´t know what he is good at, and even worse I don’t think he knows either.

“Of course, it is a shame for him that he’s always injured, but is he really injured? I don’t know, but it seems like he very easily gets in a shape where he can’t or doesn’t want to play football.

The former United centre-back also highlighted just how happy Mount’s former club must be for getting in excess of £55million for the consistently injured attacking midfielder: “I hope the club and him can find a solution, because that would be the best for everyone.

“Chelsea are ecstatic that they managed to get rid of him. They helped him financially, but more than that they got so many players who are not just one level, but levels above him.”

Football Insider Verdict

Football transfers are an in-exact science, there are a plethora of factors that weigh-in to whether a player succeeds, or fails, when switching clubs.

Sometimes the manager that signed the player leaves, or the tactical fit isn’t right, or they don’t like the city they move to, or sometimes, as Angel di Maria can attest to, your wife just doesn’t like the weather.

However, when it comes to United, it feels like they get it wrong far too often, shelling out big money for Paul Pogba, Antony who is thriving in Spain, Romelu Lukaku, Jadon Sancho who has performed well for Chelsea this year, and the aforementioned Argentine over the last decade.

With news that Amorim will be forced to work on a shoe-string budget this summer, it may be a blessing in disguise.

The club is in need of a change in approach, throwing money at problem positions has not worked, and has left fans disillusioned.

With Harry Amass, Chido Obi and Ayden Heaven waiting in the wings, Amorim may choose to turn to younger players to rebuild his ailing squad, returning to United’s storied history of using academy graduates as the cornerstone of its success.
