Mason Mount update at Man United as Ruben Amorim transfer budget emerges
Ruben Amorim will only get a modest transfer budget at Man United and is expected to improve the likes of Mason Mount instead, The Telegraph reports.
Under Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS ownership, Amorim is tasked with improving existing players rather than relying on large-scale spending.
During Erik ten Hag’s two-and-a-half-year tenure, Manchester United spent over £600million on transfers, but the appointment of Ruben Amorim, the first manager under the new regime, marks a shift in strategy.
Rasmus Hojlund, signed for £72m from Atalanta last summer, and Mason Mount, a £55m acquisition from Chelsea, are prime examples of players United are counting on for improvement.
Amorim’s task is to help elevate these talents and create a team built around their potential, focusing on developing a strong young core within the squad.
Ruben Amorim’s system could revitalise Mason Mount at Man United
Football Insider opinion
Mount’s high-energy style, versatility, and vision make him an ideal candidate to flourish under Amorim’s tactics and player-focused management.
Since arriving at United, Mount has endured a difficult start, with his performances hampered by injuries. Mount has made 24 appearances so far, scoring only once and providing two assists.
At Chelsea, Mount played a more advanced role, often as an attacking midfielder or wide forward, where he thrived in getting into goal-scoring and playmaking positions.

Mount’s impressive tally of 11 goals and 10 assists in the 2021/22 Premier League season with the Blues highlighted his ability to impact games from those positions.
Yet at United under former manager Erik ten Hag, Mount was pushed into a deeper or more restricted midfield role, limiting his capacity to be the creative force he was at Stamford Bridge.
In Amorim’s system, preference for a dynamic 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 formation, Mount could fill an advanced central role, tasked with pressing high, creating chances, and breaking into goal-scoring positions which was a role similar to what he once excelled in under Frank Lampard at Chelsea.
At just 25, Mount has plenty of time to adapt and develop further, and under Amorim’s guidance, he could return to his best, bringing the energy, creativity, and goal threat United have been hoping for since his arrival.
