‘Mason Mount’s Man United future under threat despite Bilbao breakout’
Mason Mount could still be the victim of Manchester United’s summer spending spree, despite his recent upturn in form.
The midfielder has had a torrid time since moving to Old Trafford from Chelsea, a combination of injuries and poor performances seeing his reputation tumble.
However, Mount was excellent in Man United’s win over Athletic Club in the second leg of their Europa League semi-final on 8 May, finding the net twice after coming off the bench.
The 26-year-old scored United’s opening goal of the night with a smart turn-and-finish, before lobbing Bilbao goalkeeper Julen Agirrezabala from close to the half-way line.
Despite his mini-resurgence for the Red Devils, the Englishman’s future is still uncertain, with United looking to bring in some serious attacking talent in the upcoming transfer window.

‘Now or never’ for Mount as Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo eyed
It is well known that Ruben Amorim is hoping to add to his squad, with United interested in Wolves’ Matheus Cunha and Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo.
This could be bad news for Mount, as if either Cunha or Mbeumo were brought in it would be to play in one of the two positions behind the striker, which would provide direct competition to the former Chelsea man.
Writing in The Times (11 May), former Republic of Ireland international Tony Cascarino believes that Mount doesn’t have long to prove his worth: “It’s no secret that Amorim will want to bolster his attacking options in the summer and that could spell trouble for Mount if he can’t make a consistent impact when given the chance.”
Cascarino added: “Amorim’s faith in him will boost his confidence but he needs to prove his durability and perform like he did against Bilbao more often to be a part of his long-term plans.”
While defending the bad luck Mount has experienced, and hoping for a strong run to finish the campaign before an uninterrupted preseason, the pundit warned: “United are still waiting for the impact they paid £55million for, and there will surely be expensive newcomers who will be ready to snatch his place in the squad next season.”

Big summer for Amorim
Football Insider Verdict
Football Insider exclusively revealed that Man United will give Amorim time to turn fortunes around at Old Trafford, meaning this summer’s transfer window is vitally important for the Portuguese manager.
The 39-year-old has to get his signings right ahead of next season, otherwise he will have very little success in improving the Red Devils.
United are already guaranteed their worst ever Premier League points tally, and currently sit a lowly 16th in the table.

Their domestic form is nothing short of abysmal, with no wins in their last seven games.
The 20-time top-flight champions have one last chance to save their miserable campaign, as they face Tottenham in the Europa League final.
Not only will they obtain some much-needed silverware with a win, but they will also secure Champions League football for next season.
Mount looks set to finally have a proper impact, but further set backs would have to put that in doubt, with United unable to wait as they search for a return to former glories.
