Terms agreed: Nottingham Forest settle deal with defender

By Danny Wright

Nottingham Forest have confirmed that Joe Worrall has signed a new three-year deal with the club.

The East Midlands club announced that the 20-year-old sensation agreed terms on Monday through their official Twitter page.

Worrall has enjoyed a breakthrough season at the City Ground after making his first-team debut in October against Reading.

He has gone on to make 10 league appearances for the Championship club this season.

The centre-back offers Forest a massive defensive boost with interim manager Gary Brazil’s options being limited in the area.

Worrall spent three months on loan at Dagenham and Redbridge last season, which has helped him progress into the solid player Forest currently have at their disposal.

While he was with the Daggers, Worrall gained his first senior appearance in a 2-0 FA Cup against Everton at Goodison Park.

In total he made 15 appearances with Dagenham, scoring one goal in a 2-2 draw with Newport County.

The former Forest academy man will now be hoping to get into Brazil’s starting line-up for the fourth time in a row when they take on Brighton on Saturday.

The clash against the Championship table-toppers couldn’t come at a worse time for the club as they are currently floundering just six points above the relegation zone.

Football Insider Verdict

This is good news for Forest as players who come through the academy are ones that the club need to try and keep hold of. Worrall is still young and needs more game time. Although if Forest were in a better situation they could have seeked to loan the 20-year-old out to a high-end League One side.  However the club have had a bit of an injury crisis at the back which has seen him play a lot more games than he would have expected this season. Young players need to learn to win and the Reds aren’t doing that at the moment. With his future secured for three years though, he will have all the time he needs at the club to reach his potential.
