‘Massive’ – Emiliano Martinez react to Cristian Romero’s Tottenham message

Tottenham captain Cristian Romero dispatched a heartfelt message to supporters after Spurs claimed a statement victory over Manchester City.

Spurs continued their fantastic start under Thomas Frank as Tottenham defeated Man City in 2-0 win on 23 August at the Etihad Stadium.

Europa League hero Brennan Johnson opened the scoring with a well-worked counter-attack led by Richarlison, before James Trafford’s mistake gifted Joao Palhinha in a error that doubled the lead in the first half.

Romero produced a commanding display at the back, marshalling the defence alongside Micky van de Ven as the pair successfully kept Erling Haaland quiet throughout the evening.

Following the result, the Argentine defender shared a heartfelt message with the Tottenham faithful, reflecting the growing bond between the players and supporters under Frank’s leadership.

Tottenham stars react to Cristian Romero after back-to-back wins

Romero shared a passionate message for the supporters after another win against Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola now having lost 10 times to Tottenham — the joint-most defeats he has suffered against a single club.

He said: “A massive win away from home. This is only the beginning and we’ve got to keep working, but this is the right path. All together, always.”

His post quickly drew reactions from teammates and fellow professionals. Mohammed Kudus responded with flexing arm emojis, Pedro Porro called him “Captain” alongside heart emojis, while Emiliano Martinez and defensive partner Micky van de Ven also showed their support with likes.

Romero was officially named Tottenham captain for the 2025/26 season earlier this month, underlining his importance to Thomas Frank’s plans despite speculation linking him with a move away.

Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid were both credited with interest, but Spurs moved swiftly to end uncertainty, announcing on 20 August that Romero had signed a new contract keeping him in north London until 2029.

Just days later, he led the side to yet another win over Guardiola’s City, maintaining Tottenham’s 100% league record under Frank.

Tottenham eye Maghnes Akliouche after £47.5m price tag revealed

While Spurs have enjoyed an unbeaten start to the campaign, the club remain active in the transfer market as they look to strengthen their attacking options following the collapse of a deal for Eberechi Eze.

Football Insider revealed Tottenham target Maghnes Akliouche will be available for £47.5 million in the final days of the window.

The 23-year-old has emerged as one of France’s brightest young talents, impressing with his creativity and technical quality.
