‘Massive’ – Leeds Exclusive: Whelan reacts to Radrizzani’s Amazon reveal
Noel Whelan has heaped praise on Andrea Radrizzani and claimed Leeds United is “unrecognisable” for the better under his ownership.
The former Whites and Coventry striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, insisted the club is in its healthiest state for the past 12 years.
Radrizzani revealed in the opening scenes of the Take Us Home Amazon series that if United gain promotion he will move to Leeds for one year to witness, in full, the club’s first season back in the Premier League since 2004.
It suggests the Italian has no immediate intention of selling his majority stake in club despite interest from Qatar Sports Investment group.
QSI are believed to be keen on investing at Elland Road but Radrizzani’s plans point towards a minority stake.
When asked by Football Insider for his reaction to the owner’s comments, Whelan said: “He has earned that right.
“In the time he has been there the club has picked up and so many good things have been done behind the scenes. Buying the stadium back, reducing the debt, bringing the manager in which cost a lot of money – he has put his money where his mouth is and he has made a massive difference.
“The club has never been in a healthier state for the past 12 years. It is unrecognisable.
“The off-pitch things: players visiting hospitals, meeting fans, going to schools – it is fantastic.
“The club is a better place with that man. He is turning it back into that family club.”
Marcelo Biela’s side are currently top of the Championship with nine games remaining – a seven-point cushion separating themselves and third-placed Fulham.
Coronavirus has halted all fixtures, casting the season into doubt but the Premier League and EFL are hopeful of a mid-June restart.
In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED that Wolves are to offer club player with 118 Premier League appearances this summer.
