‘Massive Worry For Tottenham’ – Exclusive: Pundit reacts to latest Kane news
Tottenham have looked void of ideas without Harry Kane and it is a “massive worry” he can’t play until later in February.
That is according to former Premier League star Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after Jose Mourinho revealed on Sunday in his latest update that the centre-forward would be out of action for a “few more weeks” with an ankle injury.
Perhaps the most alarming aspect of the news for Spurs fans was the revelation that Kane, 27, had taken knocks to both ankles during the 3-1 defeat against Liverpool.
It is not the first time the 207-goal Tottenham striker has suffered from this particular type of injury — he missed significant portions of the 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 campaigns with ankles issues too.
Whelan assessed how the team will cope without Kane after hearing how long he will be out.
He told Football Insider: “He’s had this reoccurrence of ankle injuries now and it’s got to be quite worrying because it’s not once, it’s three or four times now that ankles have been a problem for Harry Kane.
“This is a massive worry for Tottenham because he’s their talisman, you can see how ineffective they were against Liverpool when he went off as well as against Brighton.
“They didn’t have that same threat going forward and he’s somebody that the rest of the players look up to for guidance when you’re out there in the field and I just feel, without him they are lacking.”
Kane has been Spurs’ top-scorer in six successive seasons and is 59 strikes away from equalling Jimmy Greaves as club-record goalscorer.
He will be anxious to be at full fitness ahead of this summer’s European Championship, where he will captain Gareth Southgate’s England.
In other news, a former Tottenham man has given his prediction over the transfer future of Dele Alli.
