Callum Wilson: Clubs are lining up to sign Newcastle star - expert

Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

Newcastle United have placed an £11million price tag on Callum Wilson with clubs lining up to agree a deal to sign the striker.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Scotland striker Frank McAvennie insisted teams will be "snapping at their hands" to sign the forward given his proven record of scoring goals in the Premier League.

However, he admitted there would be concerns surrounding his patchy injury record, claiming there must be a reason Newcastle are willing to let him leave.

It has been suggested that the price tag could drop again to tempt interested parties into making a move.

Newcastle United willing to sell Callum Wilson for £11million as teams line up

Wilson scored ten goals in 26 games last season, but his contract at St James' Park is set to expire next summer, leading the club to push for an exit now.

Now, the former Hammers man has suggested that multiple clubs should be jumping at the chance to land the forward for a low fee.

"Yeah, I think so," he told Football Insider when asked whether Wilson's price tag is fair.

"I think he's a good player, he's a decent striker but he won't give you much more than that.

"For £11million... It depends on his injuries, honestly.

"There must be a reason why they're willing to let him go because Newcastle could always do with a backup striker for Isak.

"Maybe he needs a run of games, maybe he needs to play every week, I'm not sure. It's a strange one, to be honest.

"£11million for a striker who can score goals, who knows where the goal is, that's not a lot of money so I think people will be snapping at their hands for that."
