Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

Frank McAvennie has claimed that his neighbour Odsonne Edouard "will definitely" knock back a transfer this summer and sign a new Celtic contract.

The former Hoops and St Mirren forward, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, insisted that a new deal is beneficial to both club and player.

The 22-year-old still has two years remaining on his current contract but with a host of Premier League sides monitoring the Frenchman the club want to tie him down for longer.

Edouard won the club's Player of the Year award last month for his outstanding contribution last season - 27 goals and 19 assists in 45 appearances.

When asked by Football Insider if he expected the centre-forward to put pen to paper, McAvennie said:

"He just lives round the corner from me and he is happy here but maybe not too happy with his neighbours!

"Edouard gets it. He gets what this year is all about so he will definitely sign a new contract.

"I am not saying he will not get sold next year but a new contract means more money for both player and club. It is beneficial all round.

"He is a big part of Celtic going forward."

A new deal would see a healthy pay rise for Edouard but also allow the club do demand a higher fee for the French striker.
