Celtic put to bed any hopes of a Rangers revival on Saturday when they ran out 2-0 winners at Ibrox.

Second-half strikes from Tom Rogic and Leigh Griffiths ensured that Brendan Rodgers' side would keep alive their unbeaten streak in domestic competition and land a major physcological blow on their bitter Glasgow rivals.

After a goalless first-half which was full of action, Rogic found the opener in the 50th minute thanks to some lapse defending from the Light Blues following Patrick Roberts' skewed shot.

Not long after, Roberts again turned provider, but this time there was much more intent about it as he played in Griffiths to slot the ball past Wes Foderingham in the Gers goal.

The Bhoys barely moved out of first gear for most of the game even though Rangers did at times look like they had the ability to get themselves back in the game, but some solid defending ensured the job was done.

Celtic have now moved eight points clear of Pedro Caixinha and his side in the Premiership standings, just seven games into the season as they look to secure yet another league title.

Rodgers right to start Roberts over Forrest

Celtic fans on Twitter were livid when Rodgers opted to start Roberts over James Forrest in his line-up on Saturday.

Forrest has been in sensational form in recent weeks, scoring two braces in his last two outings against both Ross County and Dundee prior to the Old Firm clash.

Although Roberts hasn't made the headlines since returning to Glasgow, his spot in the XI was fully justified when he had the Rangers defence on the backfoot for most of the afternoon.

The English attacker didn't mean his first assist, but his second to feed in Griffiths was simply sublime and that is the kind of cutting edge that the Bhoys need in the big fixtures.

Lustig must be axed for Anderlecht trip

Celtic's journey to Brussells to play Anderlecht on Wednesday night is arguably going to be one of their biggest games of the season and Rodgers cannot afford any slip-ups otherwise his side will finish bottom of their Champions League group yet again.

While defeats are pretty much guaranteed against Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, three points at Anderlecht is a must, and to ensure this the Hoops must axe Mikael Lustig after a poor display against Rangers.

Anthony Ralston is waiting in the wings and he should be called upon to replace the Sweden international in the Celtic starting line-up.

Lustig doesn't offer enough going forward and the counter-attack could prove to be the difference on Wednesday night.

Sutton is wrong about Gordon

Being a goalkeeper is a thankless job, and Craig Gordon is experiencing that at Celtic at the moment with the amount of criticism he has received from not just the fans but also outspoken BT pundit Chris Sutton.

The ex-Hoops striker has constantly taken swipes at Gordon's performances between the sticks but it's unlikely that he will say anything about his match-winning save on Saturday.

Just after Rogic put Rodgers' men ahead, Gordon pulled off a fantastic reflex save to deny Alfredo Morelos from equalising at close range - name another goalkeeper in Scotland who could pull that off.

The Scottish 'stopper is the best in his position in the Scottish Premiership, and to prove that you just need to look at Joe Lewis' howlers for Aberdeen on Thursday night.
