Stoke City are in advanced talks to sign Tottenham sensation Jack Clarke this month, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The ambitious Championship club are increasingly likely to beat second-tier rivals Coventry City and Sheffield Wednesday to the capture of the 20-year-old forward this month.

Now a recruitment source has told Football Insider that Stoke are confident of agreeing the terms of a deal in which Clarke will join on loan for the rest of the season.

It is a huge coup for Michael O'Neill's side, who have already signed Rhys Norrington-Davies on loan from Sheffield United as well as agreed the permanent capture of in-demand Alfie Doughty.

Tottenham have given the green light to Clarke once again dropping down a division after he featured in the FA Cup last weekend.

The Premier League giants blocked a temporary exit for the York-born ace in the summer window as they wanted him to continue his development under the eyes of their coaching staff.

There were also worries about how much playing time he would get on loan after the difficult loan spells he had last season at QPR and Leeds.

Clarke has struggled to make an impact since joining Tottenham in the summer of 2019 from boyhood club Leeds for a potential £13million if all add-ons are activated.

He has made two appearances for Jose Mourinho's side in the Europa League and played 25 minutes of last Sunday's 5-0 FA Cup win over non-league Marine.
