Everton majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri is clearly not messing around in what has been a real day of knives at Goodison Park.

Even though the Toffees eventually finished their Premier League campaign one place lower than what they achieved last season, the Iranian businessman has sacked Sam Allardyce, three members of he backroom staff and now it seems as though director of football Steve Walsh has now been handed his P45 with PSV confirming that Marcel Brands has agreed to move to Merseyside.

The Eredivisie title-winners announced via their official Twitter account and official website on Wednesday that the 56-year-old technical director will join Everton on June 1, ending what has been a successful eight-year spell in Eindhoven.

PSV chief Brands has been tipped to join the Toffees for some time and the confirmation of his move - which is yet to be announced by the Premier League club - is sure to spell the end for Walsh, who oversaw a major splurge in the transfer market last year.

The former Leicester transfer chief spent £40million on Gylfi Sigurdsson, £25million on Michael Keane and £23.6million on Davy Klaassen, as well as a host of other signings that have simply failed to meet expectations on the blue side of Merseyside.

Moshiri clearly sees Walsh as being a main reason as to why the club has gone backwards over the last 12 months and fans will surely be relieved to see that he has not only got rid of Ronald Koeman and Allardyce, but also him.

Moshiri, whose net worth according to Forbes is a staggering £1.3billion, did not make his fortune through poor decision making.

Hopefully this senior exodus at Goodison on Wednesday is the beginning of a new dawn for the club that can start to show progress on the first day of next season, but it might not be over yet as there could be more developments coming out of the club in the coming weeks as they aim to replace Allardyce.

But one of the big questions that remains is will long-standing chairman Bill Kenwright be next on the chopping board?
