By Harvey Byrne

Celtic fans have celebrated as though Leigh Griffiths scored a goal on Twitter after he delivered a brilliant putdown to a Rangers fan on Sunday morning.

The 26-year-old was a target of one Gers fan on the social media website on mothering Sunday, as they sent a message sharing that he could miss Scotland's later qualifying match against Slovenia due to a wrist injury after writing a load of cards to a number of women.

However, Griffiths chose to respond to the message and many are glad that he now did.

The experienced forward sent back to the Rangers supporter that he would return to lift the title, striking a blow as the Hoops are currently a clear 33 points clear of their Glasgow rivals after going the season unbeaten.

The response has brought a lot of delight to Celtic fans on social media, who are eager for their team to win the battle against their fierce rivals both on and off the pitch.

One supporter described the putdown as a "knockout blow", while others simply responded with gleeful emojis.

Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Griffiths has been in and out of the Celtic team this season following the signing of star Moussa Dembele.

However, he has still aided his side with eight goals and six assists in 18 Premiership matches this season and he will be keen to add more as the Hoops are well on course to win their sixth consecutive league title.

In other Celtic news, this midfielder has signed after the Hoops agreed terms.
