Sources: Nuno interviewed for Everton manager job as stumbling block emerges
Everton have interviewed Nuno Espirito Santo about becoming their new manager, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The former Wolves boss spoke to Goodison chiefs about the position over the weekend as they accelerate their search for Carlo Ancelotti's successor.
An Everton source has told Football Insider that Nuno is the leading contender for the post ahead of West Ham boss David Moyes.
But one stumbling block has emerged and that is the size of the backroom staff Nuno would want to take with him to Goodison Park.
The Portugese was renowned for his unusually large team of assistants, and they all departed with him when he exited Wolves last month.
They included his number two Rui Pedro Silva, first-team coaches Ian Cathro and Julio Figueroa, goalkeeper coach Rui Barbosa, fitness coach Antonio Dias and rehab coach Joao Lapa.
Bar Cathro, who is Scottish, all six including Nuno are Portugese.
Such a large backroom team would not necessarily fit at Goodison, where the likes of Duncan Ferguson are longstanding members of the coaching team and have worked under various managers.
Everton are looking for their sixth permanent manager in five years.
Football Insider revealed last Wednesday (2nd June) that the billionaire owner had already made personal contact with Nuno's agent Jorge Mendes about a potential deal.
Longstanding Everton chairman Bill Kenwright is championing the case of Moyes even though he is in advanced talks over signing a new West Ham deal following an outstanding campaign.
Nuno's availability, impressive Wolves spell and links to Mendes, the world's most powerful agent, make him the favourite for the vacancy.
The 47-year-old is keen to get back into management after his four-year Molineux reign ended 11 days ago.
