Phillips Exclusive: Tottenham may sign 'Fantastic' 27-yr-old by tomorrow after Sky reveal

Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger would be a "fantastic" signing for Tottenham if a deal can be completed before the window shuts, according to Kevin Phillips.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former England international claimed that the 27-year-old would be "a really smart" addition as he would add "great competition for places".

Sky Sports revealed on Monday that Spurs were interested in signing the Chelsea centre-half but now face competition from French giants Paris-Saint Germain.

The Germany international has fallen fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge following the arrival of Thiago Silva and is yet to feature for the Blues this season.

Phillips believes that a switch across London may help Rudiger rediscover his best form.

"He's a top, top player and maybe a change of club would do him the world of good," he told Football Insider.

"A change of scenery, a change of management and a change of style may bring out his best form. I think he is a fantastic player.

"If Mourinho can get him through the door before the deadline, with Bale and the other lads that have come in, I think it has been a good summer of business from Spurs.

"If they brought in Rudiger, all of a sudden, they are a different outfit. He would add great competition for places so I think that would be a really smart signing if they can get it over the line."

Chelsea’s Rudiger is being considered by the Londoners as an alternative centre-back target if a deal for Skriniar falls through.
