Tottenham players "had an inkling" Nuno Espirito Santo would be sacked prior to the loss against Man United.

That is the view of former White Harte Lane number one Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg's cryptic comments after the 3-0 loss on Saturday.

In an interview with Stadium Astro (30th October), Hojbjerg said "I have to be careful" when quizzed on what went wrong at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Less than 24 hours later, this site broke the news that Tottenham chiefs had decided to sack Nuno.

Robinson believes many of the squad knew Nuno was on borrowed time.

"I'm not sure if the players knew officially that if Nuno lost that game he was out." he told Football Insider.

"But I think they had an inkling judging by Hojbjerg's comments. You get a feeling when you are at a club.

"Let's be honest, when you don't have a shot in the second half away at West Ham and then follow it up by not having a shot on target against Man United at home, the manager is in trouble. That is just unacceptable.

"It is miles away from where they want to be and miles away from where they should be. To not have a shot on target in over two hours of football when you have one of the world's best strikers in your team is unforgivable.

"The players will have known he was on the brink."

Spurs have acted swiftly and have since appointed Antonio Conte as their new manager.

He took training today and will be in the dugout for Thursday's Europa Conference League clash against Vitesse Arnhem.
