Sources: Big Newcastle manager update after Bruce talks with board
Steve Bruce has been given assurances by Newcastle United chiefs he will remain as manager next season - if Mike Ashley is still at the helm, Football Insider understands.
The 60-year-old came under heavy fire from supporters earlier this season after a dreadful run of form saw the Magpies embroiled in a relegation scrap.
However, a source at St James' Park has told Football Insider Bruce has been told his job is safe ahead of next season under current owner Ashley.
Newcastle's form has recovered in recent weeks and the Magpies, who currently sit 17th, have secured their Premier League status.
As such, Bruce is currently in line to remain in charge for a third successive season on Tyneside.
However, it is dependent on the prospective Newcastle takeover failing to go through.
Should Ashley sell up to the Saudi-led PiF consortium, then Bruce could face an uncertain future.
As revealed by Football Insider in April, Newcastle are privately confident the Premier League will green light the Amanda Stavely-fronted takeover bid over the coming months.
Ashley has hired renowned sports lawyer Nick De Marco to enter into an arbitration process against the Premier League.
The Sports Direct tycoon has also launched anti-competition proceedings against the governing body.
Newcastle fans were calling for Bruce's head after a run of just two wins in 19 league games between December and April.
However, wins over Burnley, West Ham and Leicester in their last six games have secured the club's place in the Premier League next season.
The Magpies' upturn in form coincided with the return of Allan Saint-Maximin and Callum Wilson from injury.
