Sources: Coventry City reject Middlesbrough move for Viktor Gyokeres
Coventry City have rejected an enquiry from Middlesbrough for star striker Viktor Gyokeres, Football Insider understands.
This site revealed last month (2 May) that the 24-year-old has been targeted by Fulham following their Premier League return.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Gyokeres is also wanted by Boro and they have made an approach to sign him.
Coventry have knocked that back but the north-east outfit could return for a player regarded as capable of making it in the Premier League.
Middlesbrough are in the market for striking reinforcements after seeing loan signings Andraz Sporar, Aaron Connolly and Folarin Balogun all return to their respective parent clubs last month.
Gyokeres, who has two years left on his Sky Blues contract, admitted to Swedish outlet fotbollskanalen, via Coventry Live last week (9 June), that he has "no idea" if he will be at the club for the 2022-23 campaign.
He scored 17 times in 45 Championship games in the 2021-22 season, including one against Boro last September (2021).
His fine form for Coventry saw him earn a recall to the Sweden squad and he scored his second senior international goal in a 3-2 defeat to Norway on Sunday (12 June).
Gyokeres only moved to the club permanent last summer (2021) after spending the second half of the 2020-21 season on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion.
Boro finished in seventh in the 2021-22 season and missed out on a place in the play-offs by five points while Coventry finished mid-table, 11 points off the top six.
