Tottenham Exclusive: Paul Robinson reacts to big Erik Lamela transfer development

Paul Robinson has urged Tottenham not to sell Erik Lamela this summer amid growing doubts over his future.

The former White Hart Lane number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed that the 28-year-old's inclusion in the 1-1 draw against Man United on Friday shows that he is "integral to Jose Mourinho's plans".

Lamela started the game in behind the returning Harry Kane and was one of Spurs' most influential players until he was replaced just after the hour mark by Gedson Fernandes.

Football Insider revealed earlier this month that the Argentina international had nine games to save his career in North London with the club open to the player leaving in the upcoming transfer window.

Robinson was adamant departures would be needed before Mourinho could sign anyone this summer.

"I was surprised when I heard he might leave because he always does such a good job when he plays," he told Football Insider.

"We know how good Lo Celso is and how good he has been but then the team sheet comes out and Lamela is playing. That shows what Jose thinks of him.

"But there will have to be departures at Spurs if Mourinho wants to bring players in this summer. The club have made it quite public how this period has affected them financially.

"His performance on Friday night shows that he is still integral to Jose Mourinho's plans."

Lamela has scored four goals and contribute six assists in his 24 appearances in all competitions this campaign.

The former AS Roma player signed a contract extension in July 2018 and his current contract is not due to expire until 2022.
