Paul Robinson is "surprised" by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg's turnaround at Tottenham under Antonio Conte.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one recalled a time when Hojbjerg, 27, looked set to leave the London club.

Hojbjerg has been one of Tottenham's standout players in the 2022-23 campaign.

The club are keen to reward the ex-Southampton star, who is regarded as a key player by Antonio Conte.

His current contract runs until the end of June 2025.

When asked by Football Insider if Hojbjerg was deserving of a bumper new deal in north London, Robinson said: "Hojbjerg has surprised me this season.

"There was a point where it looked like he would be on his way but now he is one of the first names on the team sheet.

"Under Conte, he has reached another level. Yes, Conte is defensive but he has improved players. That is undeniable. Hojbjerg has improved, Ben Davies has improved and so has Eric Dier.

"I think the midfield has been a very strong area for Spurs this season. It defensively where they have been caught out."

Hojbjerg has made 21 appearances for Spurs across all competitions this season.

He has four goals and four assists to his name in those outings.
