Tottenham tipped to steal Sanchez from under Everton noses after source update

Frank McAvennie

Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

Frank McAvennie claims Tottenham should beat Everton to the signing of right-back Jorge Sanchez.

The former West Ham striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insists Spurs have to keep improving their defence.

The right-back has impressed for his country at the Olympics and played a key role in their march to the semi-finals.

Sanchez made 37 appearances for Club America last season, scoring once and chipping in with two assists.

McAvennie has praised Tottenham for finally fixing their most obvious problem but urged caution over Sanchez's ability.

"They have to keep going with defenders," McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild

"Finally, Spurs have spent years leaking like a sieve. It's been shocking.

"I've said before, they have had midfielders playing at centre-back and everything.

"An overhaul is what's best at this point. We've talked about new central defenders and it looks like [Cristian] Romero is coming in.

"It makes sense to get a new full-back too.

"I have reservations if he's coming from South America, there are far more misses than hits from that part of the world.

"Spurs need to get their recruitment right this summer, it's vital.

"I would maybe want to sign someone with Premier League pedigree but the kid obviously has something about him."

This site revealed the North London side have already agreed personal terms with one defender this summer, Atalanta’s Cristian Romero.

Yesterday (4th August), Fabrizio Romano reported the deal is now "done" with Romero set to fly to London shortly.
