Tottenham should appoint Rangers manager Steven Gerrard as Jose Mourinho's successor.

That is the view of Gerrard's former England teammate Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about who should fill the vacant managerial post at Spurs.

Steven Gerrard has enjoyed great success in his third season at Ibrox, leading the club to the Scottish Premiership title and the last 16 of the Europa League.

Daniel Levy wants to appoint a manager young in profile, and Julian Nagelsmann, Brendan Rodgers and Roberto Martinez were among the initial contenders.

Robinson has urged his former employers to consider Steven Gerrard for the vacant role.

"When I look at the list of managers nobody is jumping off the page at me," he told Football Insider's Dylan Childs.

"There could be a massive rebuild once again. Who do they trust to do it? They had the young exciting manager in Pochettino and they have had the serial trophy winner Mourinho. Neither return a trophy for Spurs.

"Where do they go now? The only one that would excite me, and he has not been talked about yet, is Steven Gerrard. I would love to see him there.

"What he has done at Rangers has been incredible. He is a young, exciting manager who has pull in the transfer market.

"Yes, Scotland is not anything like the Premier League but I like what he has done there and how he has gone about it.

"I cannot understand when his name has not come up given the other names that have. I think he would be a great option for Spurs."

Speaking about Gerrard this week, Sir Alex Ferguson told the Guardian: "He's done magnificent [at Rangers].

"He really has, both on and off the field."
